Now that holidays are approaching, is a good time for some safety tips. This way we will enjoy our family and friends during the hole season without any problems. Even if you do not celebrate anything, we recommend you to read them.

The following post compilates some tips from UK goverment for fire safety during holydays. You can check the full list of tips in their website.

  • Replace old lights for new ones.
  • If you want to decorate your garden or any other outdoor area, your outdoor lights should be IP65 rated.
  • Remember to check if the smoke alarm is working correctly.
  • If you are thinking on lighting candles, do not place them near flamable objects or surfaces, and place them where they cannot be knocked down or blown over and out of reach of children.
  • If you turn on the fireplace, if you can, use a screen on the fireplace at all times when the fire is burning.
  • Remember to check and clean the chimney and fireplace area at least once a year. That way the smoke can go up through it without any problem.
  • If you choose to have a real tree, remember to water it. Unwatered natural trees can go in flames within seconds. Cut off about 2 inches (5 cm) of the trunk to expose fresh wood for better water absorption
  • In case your choice is an artificial tree, make sure it is flame resistant. This way potential fire hazard is eliminated.
  • Don’t overload electrical sockets with three and decoration lights. Remember to unplug them before you go to bed or leave the house.
